Media Mash Up

Bloody Mary

South Park lately has become one of my favorite shows. I love how every episode has a point at the end almost moral points or good points of advice. It’s funny how many people probably over look the actual value of the show because of its content. I think it’s just a really funny way to get a point across. Usually the points pertain to the current economic standing or some government issue or an issue in general society. So the episode called bloody Mary starts out with Stan at karate. They come out from practice and Stans father picks them up. They get into the car and Stans dad is drunk. Stan tells him he should be driving but he refuses to not drive. Along the way he gets a DUI. After that he went to AA where he was told that he had a disease, and that he should seek god for help. So Stans father believes that he has a disease and that there is nothing he can do about it. So instead of trying to quit he continues drinking and believing that there is no way he could possibly stop. He hears about a virgin Mary statue that is bleeding and seeks it out. I won’t get into the details about however, he then stops drinking because this “statue” cured him. The pope debunks the statue and Stans father again believes he has a disease and can’t stop drinking. At the end of the episode Stan talks sense into him by pointing out the fact that he hasn’t drank in days and that it was not some statue but his own will. All ends well. So the reason I told you that story is because it makes a good point about the power of perception. What people perceive to be true they make reality. A lot of people would disagree, have you ever been cut off in traffic? Immediate reaction is generally anger. What a jerk or F bomb, cut me off. However what if that person was rushing to a hospital, an injury or something else? You never know but if you did find that they weren’t just cutting you off to cut you off how would your perception change? Would you still be angry? my guess is no. My guess is your whole demeanor would change. In sales this is a very powerful tool not only for yourself but for the people you deal with. Most people make their judgments about you in about 3 seconds, you don’t have long to change it. Also if you failed its because you believed you failed. Most people don’t realize that its their thoughts that control their emotions, not emotions that control thoughts. I highly urge you if you are not where you want to be to sit down and evaluate yourself and realize that you control your future no one else. You can’t change the past you can only look forward and affect the present. Food for thought: If you are ever in Cali Nevada or Utah, In and Out burger is soooo good and sooo bad!
