On Safari

I apologize for the lack of posts for about the last week, I have been on safari. You see I have been searching for an answer to a burning question. I have been looking high and low, I have left no stone unturned. Whether it was the hours of searching craigslist, or the long commutes to get out and see them. I have been busy on a hunt. The good news is, is that I found the answer to my question. Which Bimmer is the best Bimmer. I finally landed on my new car. I mean I literally spent the last week searching for this damn thing, it has been crazy.

So I started searching with craigslist and autotrader, then added cars.com. I searched for cars that fell into a certain range and then tagged them and went back and looked at all of them. Then I proceeded to make numerous phone calls and ask the hard questions, any problems, up coming maintanence, tears in the leather…etc. ? Nope, nothing, great! Then I had to go see them, this is where the fun began. Wow I guess I learned an elementary lesson, ask MORE questions. After seeing some not so good bimmers, I finally caught on. I tell you all of that to tell you this. On this one day in particular I went to see a dealer car. It was advertised on the internet. I had already seen pictures I just wanted to see it for myself. So I get there and after about 10 minutes of playing with the new corvette z06 a salesman finally asks me if he can help me. I told him what I was there to see and he looks at me and goes nope we don’t have that car here. Blankly stares at me, and doesn’t say another word. Ok, either this guy doesn’t want to talk to me or he just isn’t very quick to pick up on the fact that I’m here to buy a car. So I said you guys are advertising it online at this location and I have cash and if you guys do well with this one I am going to buy 2 cars with cash. Then what do you know things start clicking, wheels are turning and a light bulb goes off. Let me go check to see where that car is. Comes back a couple of minutes later, ok yes we have it. It’s not quite ready yet, it is being detailed and there is a couple of maintanence things that need to be done on it but it will be ready soon. Here is my card, give me your number as soon as it’s ready I will let you know, and I will call you tomorrow to let you know what is going on. Ok well is the car in the lot? I asked. “Nope, the car is not here yet.” Ok fair enough, call me when you get it in. I walked out not very happy. On my way back to the car I spot the bimmer from the ad in the parking lot. So my girlfriend asks, “should we go look at it?”, “No, that is ok maybe later” I said. So off to look at more cars. We decided the next place to go is a BMW dealership. We pulled in walked into the office and asked the first person we saw where the used cars were. She said let me call a salesman to escort you to the back part of the lot. He walks over, I tell him hey I’m looking for the used cars. Ok he says which kind do you want a coupe, convertible, or sedan? Well that is a good question I said, I’m not really sure. He immediately says ok well I don’t know where to point you because you aren’t telling me what you want. Oh wow this guy is as bad as the first one. So my girlfriend throws out a random model that we have been looking at and he goes oh we dont have any of those here you will have to go somewhere else. Ok fine on the chase goes. We headed off to a part of town where we knew a bunch of car dealership were. We saw some ok cars, nothing to great. Then I remembered a contact I had made one day while working in that area. A super nice older gentleman, who owned his own dealership. So I walk in and talk to him, at first he didn’t recognize me but it didn’t take him long. He immediately asked me how I was doing and had a great big smile on his face. I told him hey I’m looking for a car. His first question was what brand. He asked me a few more relevant questions, but the one thing I noticed was he was asking what I prefered. When he was done asking questions he said to me Lloyd I will find you this car and I will aggressively look for it for you. I will make sure that whatever I find is really nice, and fits this description. Then he told me if by chance you find one before I do, call me and let me know. No hard feelings that way I don’t waste time searching. I walked out super happy, and in a great mood. . It was a much different feeling than with the other salesman. The main differences between this gentleman and the others is that he was friendly. He smiled he didn’t immediately asked me coupe sedan or convertible. Then he took the time by asking relevant questions to narrow down exactly what I was looking for and promised to find it. When you compare that nope we don’t have it, oh wait we do. And nope we don’t have it and I’m not going to check. I will find it for you is a whole lot better. It just shows me why people do not like most salesman. The first 2 were rude and aggressive. But this older gentleman was aggressive but you would never know because he was polite, he was very pleasant to talk to. And at times he was ok with something other than what car are you looking for.
